Update

Hi all

Wondering why I've been a little scarce lately? Well, to put it bluntly, I was arrested on Friday evening after the Joburg Bloggers get together. I was thrown into a police car, handcuffed and without explanation and taken to a police station for an alcohol test. I waited for five hours before I was tested at which point they found me only marginally over the legal limit, threw me back into a police car and took me to another station. I hadn't eaten for 14 hours by then and it turns out that this affected the amount of alcohol in my blood. After having my papers processed I was transported to cells where I sat, without food or drink for a further 10 hours. Eventually, after what seemed a lifetime I was released on free bail and ordered to appear in court on Monday morning.

On Monday I waited for hours with my attorney until the court decided to postpone my case until May, pending blood results. They never took my blood. This should work in my favour and there is a 90% chance that it will simply be thrown out.

It was the worst experience of my life and I'm still not quite right.

Sorry for the lack of posts and comments lately. Please don't stop following my blog, I'll be back to normal in a few days, at which point I'll write a few posts documenting the experience. For now please just bear with me, I don't have too much humour stocked up at the moment.

Lots of love

I'm sorry it happened Tom. It totally sucks and I'll still be here to read when you feel better about the whole situation. Well, enough to blog about it.

Strongs.

Shit so sorry dude. I thought they had to test your levels before they arrested you?

That is so kak. It must have been hideous for you and Lee was probably strung out too. Sending you big bloggy hugs and hoping that your case gets dropped.

Oh my word! Sounds like you went through hell.

As far as I know they have to test you within 2 hours or something ridiculous, but I could be wrong about that.

Good luck getting the case dropped...

Wow. so are you officially an Ex-con?
Sorry for you having to go to jail. That's crazy.

Hopefully it will get thrown out.

We won't stop following you.

What an awful experience! Hopefully not severe enough to completely rob you of your humour.

Wow, sounds like a very intense experience. My younger sister went through a similar situation recently. It really sucks - her court date is next week and we're confident it will get thrown out.

Don't worry about being humorous, it seems like we're all just worried about you. Hope you're back to feeling somewhat normal soon.

{hugs}

Interesting. I could have sworn I left a comment yesterday.

In any case.

Give them hell!

Well I picked an interesting post to read for the first time here. That sounds horrible, and it's extremely understandable that you don't have much humor about the situation. Hope everything works out for you.

I popped over from Helen's blog. I couldn't resist someone who knows the Captain Planet theme song. :)

oh yes I see I see. well, I am glad to read that you probably won't be charged. but my heart goes out to you still... I know the feeling you must have right now (the feeling of being fucked). I hope by blogging about the experience it helps you to get all those bad feelings out (re: my last comment. hahahaha)

situations like this make me so angry- you're a good person, by the sounds of it and in no way deserved such degradation. I'm truly sorry this happened to you. the "justice" system really is a pain in all our sides.

regardless of whether or not it ends with legal consequences, there are some really painful emotions when having been unduely mistreated.

I hope you'll feel better soon; you know you didn't deserve it, and although that's also part of what makes it all so angering, just remember that things like this do happen to good people... and it's important for those people to rise above that unfairness. if you can recognize this for what it is- the product of someone else's low state of existence- you'll have won in the end.

I hope to hear from a happier tom soon, haha:-)
bye for now
